Is not a feeling. It’s a mindset and an action.
It’s the mindset that wants a change for the better, believes we can create change in some way, shape or form, and finds a pathway to create that change. It is looking at what is possible AND probable. Hope can be big and life changing, while the steps leading to it can seem tiny and mundane. For example: if one’s hope is to feel whole again, the presence of a specific loved one is a pathway, which may be impossible. The idea of being whole, however, that is very possible, because now we are talking about who you are, rather than who is in your life, what you have, or what happened to you. Now we can form new pathways, that lead to the feeling that despite missing a huge part of your life, or who you were, you are a new whole – and missing what or whom you lost is a part of that new whole.
Glimmers
Small things or moments that spark enjoyment, happiness, joy.
In our culture, especially in mental health, we are used to talking about triggers – what to avoid, what can create pain. However, when we look for glimmers, we find them and when we focus on them, we focus on what can create hope, joy, happiness, rather than what creates pain.
