Most people think of suicidal ideation as hopelessness. However, when asking people who have suicidal ideation what they hope to get out of death, without fail, we will hear a description of a different life: less pain, peace, not burdening loved ones etc. People with suicidal ideation have hope, it’s the pathway that’s misguided.
There are two types of suicidal ideation:
Passive – thoughts of wanting to die without the desire to make a plan to die by suicide.
Active – A desire to make a plan or the existence of a plan to die by suicide.
Whether you have passive or active suicidal ideation, please remember that hope is not gone, maybe the ways you tried so far have not proved to be the right ones. Together, we can forge a different way to your hope.
